Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration shingles on an estate gray house

Roof Replacement and Reshingling

When a roof reaches the end of its service life, further repairs go from economical to postponing the inevitable, sometimes harmful. Redemption Roofing and Construction replaces roofs across the Tri-Cities — Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol, and the surrounding Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina communities.

A full replacement means tearing off to the current roof, inspecting and repairing the decking underneath, and rebuilding the whole water-management system: underlayment, ice and water barrier, flashing, ventilation, and shingles. As an Owens Corning® Roofing Platinum Preferred Contractor we can back qualifying work with the Platinum Protection Roofing System Limited Warranty.

Reshingling is not just new shingles. What sits underneath determines whether the roof reaches its rated life:

  • Complete tear-off to the current roof, so nothing is hidden or guessed at
  • Decking inspection and replacement of any soft, delaminated, or rotted sheathing
  • Synthetic underlayment across the full deck for a secondary water barrier
  • Ice and water shield at eaves, valleys, and around every penetration
  • New drip edge, step flashing, and counter-flashing — not reused old metal
  • Correct intake and exhaust ventilation so the attic can actually breathe
  • Architectural shingles installed to manufacturer specification for warranty validity

Reusing old flashing or shingling over an existing layer is where most premature roof failures begin. We do not offer a layover as a cost-saving option, because it hides the decking and shortens the life of everything installed on top of it.

Why Choose Redemption for Your Roof Replacement

Redemption Roofing is an Owens Corning® Roofing Platinum Preferred Contractor, a certification held by only the top 1% of roofing companies nationwide. Earning it means carrying $1,000,000 in general liability insurance, demonstrating sustained customer service and financial stability, and passing a workmanship inspection. On a replacement that certification is not a badge — it is what makes the Platinum Protection Roofing System Limited Warranty available to you.

Top 1% Certified

Owens Corning® Platinum Preferred, backed by $1,000,000 in general liability coverage and a passed workmanship inspection.

Insurance Claims, Documented

We photograph and document damage to the standard adjusters expect, then deal with your carrier directly so approvals do not stall.

Roofing and Siding Only

A specialist crew, not a general contractor subbing the work out. Your exterior is the job, not a sideline.

Signs It Is Time to Replace Rather Than Repair

  • The roof is at or past twenty years for a standard asphalt shingle
  • Damage spans several roof planes rather than one localized area
  • You have paid for repeated repairs in consecutive years
  • Shingles are broadly cupped, curled, cracked, or shedding granules
  • The decking feels soft underfoot or sags between rafters
  • There are multiple active leaks, or leaks that return after repair
  • An insurance adjuster has approved a full replacement after a storm
  • You are selling, and an inspection report has flagged the roof

How a Replacement Runs, Start to Finish

A replacement is a bigger disruption than a repair, and most of the worry around it comes from not knowing what happens when. Here is the actual sequence:

  • Inspection and documentation — we get on the roof, photograph what we find, and tell you plainly whether replacement is genuinely the right call or whether a repair still has years in it. This is compiled in an inspection report that is sent right to you.
  • Written quote — the number, the material, and the assumptions behind it, in writing, good for 30 days if you need think about it
  • Material selection — we bring samples to the house rather than asking you to choose off a screen, because color reads differently in daylight against your own siding
  • Scheduling — a real date and a weather contingency, not a vague window
  • Tear-off and decking check — the old covering comes off and we inspect the sheathing underneath; anything soft gets replaced, and you see it before it is covered back up
  • Install — underlayment, ice-and-water membrane at the eaves and valleys, flashing, field shingles, ridge. All finalized by a final inspection report so you know the work was done as promised.
  • Cleanup and warranty — magnet sweep across the whole property, debris hauled, and your Owens Corning warranty registered on your behalf

Most residential replacements are a one or two day job. If yours will run longer because of size, pitch, or what we find under the old roof, you will hear that before we start rather than on the second afternoon.

Roof Replacement FAQ

How long does a roof replacement take?

Most single-family homes are a one to two day job once we start, weather permitting. Larger or steeper roofs, or decking that needs significant repair, can extend that. We will give you a realistic window before we begin rather than an optimistic one.

Can you install new shingles over my existing roof?

We do not recommend it and we do not offer it as a cost saving. A layover hides the decking, traps heat, adds weight, and shortens the life of the new shingles. Tearing off is the only way to know what you are building on.

How much does a roof replacement cost?

It depends on square footage, pitch, complexity, material, and how much decking needs replacing. Our inspection and written quote are free, and the instant roof quote tool will give you a ballpark before you book anything.

Will my homeowners insurance cover a replacement?

If the roof failed because of a covered event such as hail or high wind, often yes. Ordinary age and wear is not covered by any standard policy. Our storm damage inspection will tell you which one you are dealing with.

What warranty comes with a new roof?

You get manufacturer material warranties plus our workmanship warranty. On qualifying full-system installations we can offer the Owens Corning Platinum Protection Roofing System Limited Warranty, which is available only through Platinum Preferred contractors.

Do you replace the decking too?

We inspect all of it once the old roof is off and replace whatever is soft, delaminated, or rotted. Decking is priced per sheet and we show you what needed replacing rather than simply adding it to the invoice.

What happens to the old roofing material?

We haul it away and dispose of it, and we magnet-sweep the property for nails before we leave. The yard should look better when we go than when we arrived.
